Apple has been reported to be seeding the iOS 7.1.2 update to its employees for testing in May followed by a release to its carrier partners with the same build number 11D257.
Now the latest iteration to iOS 7.1.1 is available for iOS devices such as iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini, retina iPad mini and iPod touch 5G. The update comes two months after the release of iOS 7.1.1.
As the release note suggests, the iOS 7.1.2 OTA update brings bug fixes and security updates including improved iBeacon connectivity and stability, fix for a bug with data transfer for some third party accessories, including bar code scanner, and corrects an issue with data protection class of mail attachments.
Following the rollout, a number of users at the Apple support forum have been complaining as the update downloads but only one-third of it completes and the device gets stuck on the Apple screen for an hour.
Fix for iOS 7.1.2 update freezing issue
A hard boot reportedly fixes this for those facing a similar issue.
“I pressed and hold the Home button and the on/off button for a few second then the device shut off. I turned it on again and it booted into the log screen. I logged in and everything looks fine. It says the version is 7.1.2, if i check for update, it says it has the latest version.
I am I am good now. Thank you for your helps” notes a member, KennyLiu at Apple Support Community.
Those who are having the issue, here is what you do. Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for several seconds until the screen goes dark. An Apple logo should now appear. Release the buttons and wait for the devices to boot into normal mode.
Doing this will complete the update. Navigate to Settings>> General>> About to check the software version running on the device.
